History

NOCHAR, Inc. was founded in August of 1986 to market and distribute a fire retardant known as “Nochar’s Fire Preventer” (NFP). NFP is designed to fire retard all natural fiber materials, such as, wood, paper, wool, cotton, silk, leather coal, charcoal to name a few. After months of research and development, Nochar introduced, in 1991, a series of state-of-the-art polymers to the environmental market. Nochar polymers were designed to solidify hazardous waste spills, including organics, acids, bases, sludge’s and all other types of aqueous waste. Remediation companies, industrial, commercial and government agencies throughout the US and many international groups have used these polymers. Products such as booms, socks, pillows and filtration media were developed using Nochar’s polymer technology. At the same time, Nochar also introduced new products to the fire safety division. These products included a thermal barrier paste, fire fighting gel and fire retarded coating. Nochar’s Fire Safety products are designed to represent the maximum in fire safety technology, which offer a non-toxic, environmentally friendly technology at fair market pricing.

Starting in 1997, Nochar began working with and selling to the nuclear industry through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Nochar’s polymers have solidified radioactive organic and aqueous liquid waste streams at all of the major weapons sites in the United States. In the process of working with the nuclear industry, Nochar’s polymers have been subjected to and have passed some of the most stringent testing in the world. Solidified radioactive waste treated with Nochar’s polymers, have consistently demonstrated the type of long term solidification desired by nuclear engineers for safe solidification, transportation and burial. In testing performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, solidified nuclear waste using Nochar technology can exceed 30,000 years of burial with no danger of liquid released back into the environment. Today, Nochar has created eighteen (18) different products for the nuclear industry.

Internationally, Nochar’s hydrocarbon polymer is becoming the standard method of solidifying oily waste, especially in the United Kingdom. In 1998, Nochar’s international representative, Pacific World Trade (PWT) of Indianapolis, IN started marketing Nochar’s products to the nuclear industry. Today, PWT markets Nochar’s N-Series (nuclear) products in Canada, Great Britain, Russia, Romania, China, France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, along with numerous other countries around the world.

In 2007, Nochar decided to take some of the eighteen products it had developed for the nuclear complex and introduce them into the industrial and commercial markets. The result of this has led Nochar to have contracts with Fortune 500 companies involved in logistics, diesel market and environmental companies to name a few. In addition to Nochar’s previous environmental products line, it has since added polymer enhanced mats, water socks and sheen pads.

Nochar was founded and incorporated in 1986 to market a new “State-Of-The-Art” fire retardant, now known as Nochar’s Fire Preventor. . Nochar dedicated itself to helping to solve the fire safety problem in the United States and around the world through research and development, education and applied technology. Since 1986, Nochar has written countless articles on fire safety and has spoken before such groups as the Defense Department’s Fire Protection Association and various other military groups in and outside the Pentagon, the American Risk Management Association, state fire fighters associations around the country, state and local building inspectors associations, and building code officials organizations.

PROBLEM SOLVING THROUGH APPLIED SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING is “Nochar’s number one asset” offered to its Distribution System and their customers. Nochar’s Products are the tools resulting from the problem solving process. Nochar’s growing Distribution System includes individuals and companies with multitudes of expertise in widely varying disciplines which are and can be brought to bear on problems. Through synergistic cooperation and the network of consulting engineers that has been developed by Nochar, it is able to continuously develop new industry-leading Products and Technology from within its System.

THE NOCHAR PRODUCT LINE has been assembled to meet very rigid standards. Each Product must be state-of-the-art and represent a window of technology. A window of technology is an improvement over any known similar product or technology. Each Product must also be environmentally friendly and pose no health threat. Nochar’s fire safety products now include fire retardants, fire resistive coatings, both permanent and temporary, fire suppressant gels, thermal block coatings, heat scavengers, and suppressant systems.

In 1991, Nochar introduced its environmental safety products such as, spill reponse and stablization products for hydrocarbons, acids, caustics, bodily fluids, hydrocarbon sludges and various nuclear liquid byproducts.

THE NOCHAR PRODUCTS include Fire Safety, Environmental Protection (“EPP”) and Filtration Products. The Fire Safety Products include compounds effective on natural fibers, as well as gels and pastes that can be used on synthetic materials or metals. Each of the “EPP” products is an invaluable tool in preventing, containing and remediating hazardous chemical or bodily fluid spills or continuous contamination. The Spring of 1993 marked Nochar’s entry into the water filtration industry by a break-through development of a filtration media that out-performs granulated activated charcoal and other types of filtration systems for removal of hydrocarbons and volatile chemical contaminations, both emusified and free floating. Nochar’s media’s are being used by oil companies, maritime companies, paper mills, truck and car wash companies, hazardous waste engineers and consultants, shipyards and municipalities. Nochar is now working with some of the largest environmental consulting and engineering companies in the world to solve environmental problems.

NOCHAR has participated in fire-razing of buildings for training fire fighters in New Hampshire, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Illinois, California, Washington, and Texas. The buildings are partially treated with Nochar’s products to give a side-by-side demonstration of how Nochar’s products slow the spread of fire in the areas treated with its products and technology. A hands-on demonstration of Nochar’s fire suppression products is also given at the training exercises. Life-saving techniques and benefits are taught during the training to increase the individual safety of responding fire fighters.

NOCHAR environmental protection products have been the subject of numerous white papers and have been researched and tested by numerous governmental agencies around the world. Contact us at our Indianapolis offices for copies of the white papers and testing results.

To date, Nochar has acquired or developed formulas and technology for use as:

The photo above is a house located on Grand Bay in New Hampshire. New Hampshire Insurance Company and the State Fire Marshal asked Nochar to participate in the raising of a house as a demonstration of the effectiveness of Nochar’s products and a training exercise for eleven volunteer fire companies. The area of the house to the right was left untreated. The area to the left was treated with several of Nochar’s products to give a side by side demonstration of normal fire growth as opposed to the slow growth of treated areas. A 45 minute video was produced and is available on request.

Nochar’s products have been the products of choice by the professionals. From covered wagons to covered Bridges, Nochar has treated historic structures throughout the United States.

Nochar’s products have become the products of choice for the stuntmen and set designers of the entertainment industry. Bonomo Grace is one of several companies distributing Nochar’s products to the theatrical and motion picture industries. Lord of the Rings is one of several major motion pictures that have used Nochar’s fire safety protects for fire safety on the set and in special effects.
